About The Briggs Family Tree
Welcome to the Official Briggs site for John Briggs of England and his
descendants. Once the DNA test gets back for my brother I will work on my other
Briggs site and update it. From the records I have come across "descending from
Clement Briggs" is not as simple as thought. There were actually at least 2
Clement Briggs in Taunton, Massachusetts area in the early 1600s. And I have
seen Clement and John used interchangeably between what appeared to be the same
people. I trace for sure back to the brothers Hugh, Richard, and William Briggs
in Taunton, Massachusetts. Their father was John Briggs. At one point there is a
Joane Briggs in the family tree but it appears that the Joan Briggs who married
Peter Tallman, may not be the Joane Briggs in my line. Once I verify the trace
back to Hugh, William and Richard, I will then work to verify some other lines.
In the early 1800s Daniel Briggs and his family (wife Augusta Goodell and children) came to Illinois and settled in the central part of Illinois. Actually North Central Henry County. Son Daniel and son James Briggs laid out the now defunct town of Oxford, Illinois. One of the descendants of the original Daniel Briggs now owns a great deal of the land. In fact several Briggs descendants still live in the area of Henry, Warren, Knox Counties. I am Daniel Briggs', the elder, great great great granddaughter, Mary Louise Briggs-Moeller. I was actually born a Briggs.
What I want to do is compile all the associated records into a book for my family and for living descendants of the original Briggs, Pratt, Cooksey, Goldsmith, Jones, Calkins, and Shaklees, as well as all lines leading directly to the Illinois Briggs Family, as I call descendants of Daniel and Augusta Briggs.
I would love to hear from relatives however distant on the tree they may be. Happy Genealogy Hunting to everyone!
